To assure that there are no misunderstandings, the following is an outline of potential points of confusion concerning our cake policies. We ask that you carefully read these terms to fully understand our policies.
Design and Color Policy
Every effort will be made to provide as close a duplication as possible to your design and colors.
Icing color may change with time, humidity, and heat.
Our cake artists reserve the right to make any changes to your cake to create the best possible outcome, including but not limited to colors, placement and position, size of details, and types of fonts used on your cake.
Details discussed via email or phone call are not guaranteed. Our decorators have the final say in designing the cake based on their professional experience.
Serving Sizes
We understand that some customers prefer larger pieces of cake, and that’s perfectly fine! However, personal serving size preferences do not change our standard serving guidelines and must be considered when choosing a cake size.
Color Disclaimer
Darker colors of cream may stain teeth, skin, and garments and could have a residual flavor.
We reserve the right to determine the quality of the color match.
We recommend removing deep and/or bright colors of cream from the cake’s surface before serving.
Photography
On occasion, we will photograph our cakes and reserve the right to use any photographs for display or promotional purposes without compensation.
Food Allergies and Flowers
Karina’s Cake House is not responsible for placing fresh cut flowers on cakes. This includes, but is not limited to, contamination from natural poisons, insecticides, pesticides, or growth products.
You acknowledge that fresh flowers are not food products and may contain pesticides, insects, dirt, or other contaminants.
Fresh flowers are placed on cakes at your own risk and responsibility, and against health codes.
All cakes, fillings, and frostings may contain or encounter soy, wheat, dairy, or nuts.
You acknowledge that you are responsible for informing your guests of any allergy information.
If non-edible items are placed on the cake, it is the client’s responsibility to remove all non-edible items before serving.
Karina’s Cake House is not responsible for any damage or illness caused by non-edible items.
Cakes and foam may be connected with a sharp stick — handle with care.
You acknowledge that the bottom layer of the custom cake may be non-edible and consist of foam, which is used for decorative purposes.
Care and Handling
After you or your representative pick up the cake, you assume all liability and responsibility for the condition of the cake once it leaves the possession of Karina’s Cake House.
Refund and Cancellation Policy
Custom cake orders require a deposit upon placement. Telephone orders must provide a credit/debit card number for security deposits.
Karina’s Cake House will not offer refunds or exchanges for custom products that meet our quality standards once a cake has been picked up/delivered and “Accepted” by you or another designated party.
Under no circumstances will Karina’s Cake House provide a refund in excess of the cost of the order.
Rescheduling and Changes:
If you need to postpone your cake for another date, we require at least one week’s notice.
With less notice, we can reschedule your order (depending on availability), but an extra charge may apply to rebake the cake or recreate elements.
If you’d like to change the flavor of your cake, we require at least 72 hours’ notice.
Flavor and Texture:
Cake flavor and texture is subjective. Refunds requested due to flavor or texture after the cake has been accepted and picked up will not be honored.
You may qualify for store credit if the product is returned to us and the quality of the cake flavor or texture is determined not to meet our standards (our cakes are taste-tested daily to ensure the highest quality).
Pick-Up Policy:
If you pick up your cake or desserts and they do not meet your expectations, we will issue a refund (minus a 25% handling/cancellation fee).
Refunds will be issued by check — no cash or credit refunds will be given.
If we give you a refund, you cannot keep the cake. You only get the refund if you refuse to “accept” the cake.
We will not negotiate partial refunds if you choose to keep the cake. This is a strict “take it or leave it” policy.
Deposits and Last-Minute Orders:
Custom cake orders require a 50% deposit upon ordering.
For deliveries, 100% prepayment is required.
Custom cakes should be ordered at least one week in advance.
Last-minute orders should call or visit the shop to check availability.
Cancellations:
Custom cake cancellations must be made at least one week before the scheduled pick-up time.
If cakes are cancelled after this time frame, a cancellation fee will be applied.
For custom fondant cakes, certain decorative elements are made up to a week in advance for drying purposes, and these elements will not be refunded once created.
Reason for Policy:
This policy exists because we must order ingredients or create components in advance (often a week prior), in addition to labor already spent on special orders.
